How to find your camera and microphone settings in Safari, Chrome, Firefox and Microsoft Edge on your computer

Please note if the settings listed for your browser don't work and you are on a Windows 10 machine, please scroll to the bottom of this page for further info.

Chrome

Chrome will ask you by default if you want to allow access to the camera and microphone.  To change these settings permanently:

Chrome v100 and above

Click the lock icon on the left-hand side of the URL in the browser search bar. This will open your access settings

Chrome v99 or older

  • Open Chrome and click 'Chrome' on the menu bar at the top.

  • Click 'Preferences'  then 'Advanced', then 'Privacy and Security, then 'Site Settings'.

  • Click 'Camera'.

  • Click 'https://app.blinderhq.com' and change to 'Allow'.

  • Repeat the steps above again for Microphone settings.

Safari

Safari will ask you by default if you want to allow access to the camera and microphone. To change these settings permanently:

  • Open Safari and click 'Safari' on the menu bar at the top.

  • Click 'Preferences' then 'Websites'.

  • Click 'Camera' on the left-hand side (you should see 'app.blinderhq.com' if you are logged into Blinder or on a Blinder video screen).

  • Click the dropdown to either 'Allow' or 'Ask'. Allow will ensure all future video calls will have the correct settings. Ask will ask you each time.

  • Click Microphone on the left and repeat the steps as per the camera.

Firefox

Firefox will ask you by default if you want to allow access to the camera and microphone.  To change these settings permanently:

  • Open Firefox and click 'Firefox' on the menu bar at the top.

  • Click 'Preferences'  then 'Privacy & Security'.

  • Scroll down to 'Permissions'.

  • Click the 'Settings' button opposite 'Camera'.

  • Click 'https://app.blinderhq.com' and change to 'Allow'.

  • Save Changes.

  • Repeat the steps above again for Microphone settings.

Microsoft Edge

Microsoft Edge will ask you by default if you want to allow access to the camera and microphone. To change these settings permanently:

  • Open Microsoft Edge and click 'Microsoft Edge' on the menu bar at the top.

  • Click 'Preferences' then 'Settings', then ‘Cookies and Site Permissions’, then scroll down to ‘Recent Activity’

  • Click the ‘>’ icon to the right of 'https://app.blinderhq.com'

  • Change permissions for Camera to ‘Allow’.

  • Repeat the steps above again for Microphone settings.

Additional camera privacy settings on Windows 10

Some computers running Windows 10 may block app access to the camera and microphone. This can be changed in Windows 10 settings. Please note that if your computer is managed by your company’s IT department you may not be able to change this setting and you will have to contact your administrator.

Camera:

  • Navigate to: Start menu > Settings > Privacy.

  • In the left-hand menu select 'Camera'.

  • Make sure that the 'Camera access for this device is on' and apps have access to your camera, enabled.

  • Stay on the Camera screen and scroll down to the 'Allow desktop apps to access your camera' settings.

  • The switch in this section should be in the 'On' position.

Microphone:

  • Navigate to: Start menu > Settings > Privacy

  • In the left-hand menu select 'Microphone'

  • Stay on the Microphone screen and scroll down to the 'Allow desktop apps to access your microphone' settings

  • The switch in this section should be in the 'On' position
